| This unique property on Pelican Lake offers privacy and the peaceful and quiet enjoyment of nature that for many is a key to the joys of lakefront living. Long stretches of lakeshore on both the east and south sides of the property are only one of the features that make this property unusual. The house itself is surrounded by lawn and mature trees – including pine, maple, willow, and two dwarf apple trees. However much of the land has been left in a natural state. Park-like nature walks around an area of tall prairie grass, past a small wetland area with cattails, winding through the trees down along Lonesome Point to a clearing on the narrow point where one can enjoy the lake views on both sides of the point. The farthest end of the point is a favorite spot for duck hunters in the fall. The south shore of the property is shielded by cattails and reeds, but as you continue around the point and along the east shore, which is closest to the house, the cattails and reeds gradually decrease, leaving a more open shoreline. The east shore and the point are mostly rip-rapped with rock to prevent erosion. A dock off the east shore, only a few steps from the house, is fitted with wheels, so it can be pulled out of the lake for the winter. A mostly level lot provides easy access to the lake in winter also for ice fishing. Wildlife in the area is abundant. Ducks, geese and pelicans make use of the lake; while other birds, rabbits and the occasional deer frequent the yard, and pheasants and wild turkeys make their homes in the nearby fields and woods. Located about halfway between the towns of Glenwood and Starbuck, the house is reached by a private gravel road. The front door enters onto a lovely four season porch with windows overlooking the lake on both the east and south sides of the house. With both heat and air conditioning, this enticing porch is suitable for dining or family living space year round. The porch as well as most of house is finished wood paneling. The living room and kitchen ceiling are beamed and slope from approx. 12 ft up to 16 ft. at the peak. |
The ground floor also offers a laundry room, ¾ bathroom, and one bedroom. Two additional bedrooms and a full bath are on the second floor of the home. The house features dual heat (electric baseboard heaters in most rooms as well as propane fueled forced air furnace with vents in all rooms). Central air makes the house comfortable on even the hottest days, but isn’t necessary for much of the summer as the many windows to take advantage of cool breezes off the lake plus two ceiling fans in the main living area make the house pleasant without having to turn on the AC on most days. This unique property would make a great vacation home but is also well suited to year round living. This is lakeshore living at its best – peace and quiet, nature’s beauty, inviting lake recreation and outdoor activities, but with all the comforts of a lovely home. |
